First used as an alternate logo only used occasionally in the early seventies, it began being more commonly used around late 1975, when it became the official logo. It was first used in print as the corporate logo on November 24, 1975.

Wal-Mart[]
1981-1992[]
In 1981, the Wal-Mart logo changed color to brown, the "Discount City" logo was completely dropped, and the font was changed as well. This was reused in Walmart Canada in 1994 which was colored blue to match its American counterpart, until it switched to its usual logo in 2001.
1991 (prototype)[]
SVG NEEDED |
In 1991, Wal-Mart rolled out several prototype locations using a logo with a star instead of a hyphen and an entirely different typeface. This logo was only used on storefronts (all now closed or remodeled) and a small amount of in-store branding.
1992-2010[]
In 1992, Wal-Mart changed the logo color to blue and replaced the hyphen with a star. This logo is still in use on semi-trucks and at many locations as hundreds of stores are being transitioned to the newest logo. The yellow 'spark' was introduced in January 2007 on semi-trucks and the company's website, as well as the slogan and light blue color; however, the new wordmark was not introduced until a year later.
Walmart (second era)[]
2008-2025[]
On June 29, 2008, Walmart announced that it would drop the hyphen from its name, and unveiled a new logo designed by Lippincott, which began use in the United States during the fall of 2008. The new logo incorporated the "spark" symbol that had been used on the company's website and on its semi-trucks since January 1, 2007, and changed the wordmark to a new font, a modified version of Myriad Pro, which set only the "W" in uppercase and the rest in lowercase for the first time.
2025-Present[]
On January 13, 2025, Walmart revealed an image refresh courtesy of Jones Knowles Ritchie and Landor. The spark was redrawn, split from the wordmark and optimised for modern applications such as motion and smartphone screens. The custom typeface is based on Antique Olive Bold, which had been used by Walmart from 1981 to 2008. The new wordmark is based on a secondary logo that was used from 1977-1982.
